Silver Consumer Panel: Tony Ineson

Tony is in his mid 50s, and his career after the corporate world has been fast moving and extremely satisfying, now running his own Travel and Gardens business. He’s a dynamic and tenacious travel and garden expert with an excellent track record of developing new business, launching new sales channels and with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. At the age of 55, he only wishes he had set up on his own years ago.

Silver Consumer Panel: Deb Merrifield

Deb is in her mid 60s and lives in a village near Cambridge with her husband and dog. She has been running her own business for the last 20 years.
She likes to keep fit and runs every day, goes to the gym twice a week and circuit training once a week. Her passion is skiing and they go on as many ski holidays as time and money can afford. In the summer they go to music festivals in an American RV camper van. She loves fast cars and has done a few track days.

Silver Consumer Panel: Glynis Sullivan

Glynis is in her 70s with an insatiable passion for travel: her "bucket list" is getting longer as she gets older! She has been writing about her adventures for over 11 years, and never tires of giving people the benefit of her experiences. The joy of being a Silver Consumer means Glynis can use a lifetime of experience to achieve the best deals, and to emphasise how important it is for companies to have a strong sense of fair play and equality. 

Silver Consumer Panel: Roger Bray

Roger Bray is in his early 80s and has been writing on developments in travel over some 50 years, winning awards including one for his lifetime contribution to travel writing. He is a Francophile who enjoys hiking with his wife and a dwindling number of able friends, loves music - especially jazz - and still runs several times a week. He has skied most of the world's leading resorts and would dearly love to continue if only they made it easier for those with ageing knees.

Silver Consumer Panel, Jennie Carr - Moderator

Jennie, a member, and formerly on the Board of the BGTW, has been at Silver Travel Advisor for over a decade since the company’s creation. She edits The Silver Traveller magazine as well as curating and creating much of the website’s online content. Jennie is a respected speaker at UK travel industry events and has moderated many panels, both consumer and trade.


How to satisfy the ageing consumer: Lisa Edgar, Chief Customer Officer, Saga

Lisa is Saga’s Chief Customer Officer and Chief Executive of its own wholly owned insight agency, the Big Window. Lisa joined the Saga Executive Leadership Team in 2022 to drive its vision of knowing their customers, and what it means to get older, better than anyone else. Prior to Saga, Lisa owned and led insight agencies for over 20 years and is a multi-award-winning and published speaker on ageing consumers together with how they behave and respond. Over the last 10 years, Lisa has focused her attention on the ageing population and, in particular, the ageing consumer mind. She is regarded as a leader in the field of what it means to age as a consumer, what needs are spawned by this, and how to best satisfy those needs with products and services.

Wise up to TV: Jason Spencer, Business Development Director, ITV

As ITV’s Business Development Director for over 11 years, Jason has led the growth in revenue of ITV’s commercial teams across the UK outside London in delivering creative business solutions through working closely in partnership with advertisers and their media agencies. Prior to ITV, Jason spent most of his career at media agencies – from media planning roles at Carat and PHD in London to running PHD North in Manchester.

Wise up to TV: Chiara Manco, Creative & Media Partnerships Director, System1

As System1’s Creative & Media Partnerships Director, Chiara manages the advertising effectiveness partnership with ITV, which helps clients harness creativity to drive commercial impact through thought leadership, ad testing and insights from System1’s database of over 150,000 ads. Lover of all-things effectiveness, Chiara has extensive experience managing global and regional advertising awards, reading hundreds of case studies and sharing lessons about what it takes to create effective work.

Wise up to TV: Steve Picken, Group Business Development Manager, ITV

As Group Business Development Manager at ITV, Steve manages ITV’s approach to supporting new brands to use TV and VOD for the first time helping them to scale their business as a result. Steve has worked within media for 25 years and has experience in press, radio, directory sales as well as TV.

Crossing the Channels: David Lloyd, Co-founder Boom Radio

David is co-founder of Boom Radio – the UK DAB station aimed at baby-boomers which has attracted a significant audience since its 2021 launch, with a familiar mix of well-targeted music introduced by familiar voices. David’s career in radio stretches back more than 40 years – as an award-winning presenter and radio station manager, having run such stations as LBC and Virgin. A fellow of the Radio Academy, a doctor of Radio, author of several books on the topic and a radio historian, he’s hugely enthusiastic about the response his latest venture at Boom Radio has attracted. David's also the station's mid morning presenter.

Crossing the Channels: Mark Palmer, Travel and Property Editor, Daily Mail, Travel Editor, Mail on Sunday

Mark is a Fleet Street veteran with nearly 40 years of national newspaper experience. In the early 80s, while working for a paper in New York City, he became the first Englishman to win the coveted Young Journalist of the Year award. On returning to the UK, he worked on Londoner’s Diary at the Evening Standard and then was hired as a news reporter on the Sunday Telegraph, where he ended up as News Editor. He then joined the Daily Express as Executive Editor before joining the Daily Mail some 15 years ago, where he is responsible for the travel, property, interiors, motoring and gardening pages. He is now also responsible for travel at the Mail on Sunday. His list of banned words is legendary.

FINN Partners is an award-winning agency that specialises in travel and hospitality communications, and Grace is an expert in creating and implementing strategic communications campaigns with impact. She’s worked with some amazing brands throughout her career and was at TUI for over a decade where she led the communications on the rebrand from Thomson to TUI.

Crossing the Channels: Lance Hill, Managing Director of Eight Days a Week Print Solutions (EDWPS)

With over 33 years’ experience in the print and direct mail industry, there isn’t much Lance doesn’t know about the wonders & value of direct mail.
Starting out as an apprentice, he worked his way through the ranks for large scale organisations, business start-ups and everything else in between.
Most recently has seen Lance launch Eight Plus – the sister company to EDWPS – a print specialist, offering management of large scale, often complex, litho, web offset and sheet fed jobs. An active IPIA Council Member & Board Member of the Royal Mail SMP, Lance has built a vast network of customers & partners across all sectors & industries.

Luke has worked at dmg media for over 10 years, where his key focus has been delivering actionable insights from first party research and data sources. As Head of Insights at Mail Metro Media, Luke leads his team in using data to deliver industry leading research projects, create compelling sales and audience stories, and implement effective insight tools.

Steve consults for a range of travel companies and associations and moderates many industry conferences and seminars. He is a fellow of the PRCA, the World’s largest communications body and is a Travel Weekly columnist, writing regularly on marketing in the travel sector. He is a holder of the Chartered Institute of Marketing Lifetime Achievement Award (Travel and Tourism). He has managed three major PR and marketing consultancies and was one of the founders, and managing director, of the UKs largest travel and tourism PR and marketing consultancy, Brighter Group, later becoming executive chairman before its sale to Finn Partners in 2018.

Marshall has worked in Digital Agencies for over 10 years, leading clients on a journey to understand how technology affects brands and consumers alike. Marshall heads up the client services team at the Award Winning Greenwood Campbell, delivering value to clients through understanding of AI, social media, algorithms, data abundance, privacy, bio-technology and the future.

Who wants to live forever? Colum Lowe, Director, Design Age Institute

Colum is a senior design leader with a significant track record of developing inclusive products and services in the private, public and charitable sectors. He has worked closely throughout his career with marginalised user groups, including those with age-related physical and mental frailty. He holds an MBA in Design Management and originally trained as a product designer at Chelsea School of Art.

Who wants to live forever? Tina Woods, Founder & CEO, Collider Health and Business for Health

Tina Woods is a mission-driven social entrepreneur and founder and CEO of Collider Health. She is the Healthy Longevity Champion for the National Innovation Centre for Ageing, aiming to accelerate ageing intelligence to ensure better health, ageing and wellbeing in the UK and globally.

Who wants to live forever? Nic Palmarini, Director , National Innovation Centre for Ageing

Nic Palmarini is the Director of UK's National Innovation Centre for Ageing (NICA). Before that, he was Research Manager and Head of AI for Healthy Aging at the MIT-IBM Watson AI Lab. Previously he has been Director of the IBM Human Centric Innovation Centre in Paris. Trained in social and political studies, he holds a decade of experience in research on supporting older adults’ autonomy and independence and deep expertise in bridging academic and industrial research with real-world applications to deliver return-on-community and return-on-business.

Who wants to live forever? Debbie Marshall , Managing Director, Silver Marketing Assocaition

Debbie has over 35 years’ industry experience, initially in travel, and 12 years in the "silver" sector. Debbie founded Silver Travel Advisor in 2011, the information, reviews, and advice website for mature travellers, which was voted Best Travel Reviews website at the British Travel Awards in 2018, 2019 and 2020. In 2021, with a new owner taking over Silver Travel Advisor, Debbie broadened her work in the silver sector, combined with a passion for ethical marketing, and joined forces with a team of industry colleagues to form the Silver Marketing Association, picking up the baton from the Mature Marketing Association.

The Agency View: Rik Moore, Managing Partner of Strategy, The Kite Factory

Rik has a lead role in supporting the agency’s growth agenda and plays a key part in developing The Kite Factory’s partnerships; from how they work with media owners to creating new relationships with specialist agencies to extend The Kite Factory’s current offering for clients. Renowned for his inventive approach to planning, Rik strives for original and strategically innovative campaign ideas, and his passion and enthusiasm for his craft shines through in his work.
