Fitness programmes designed for the silver generations have been identified as the sector’s third biggest trend in 2025 by the American College of Sports Medicine in its annual survey- holding the league table position they gained last year and further underlining the increased value of marketing sports equipment and clothes suitable for older people. Only wearable technology and mobile apps emerged as more important. The association says: “Regular physical activity for this growing population remains a critical strategy for maintaining overall health, preventing chronic diseases, improving quality of life, and the promotion of independent living. Adults aged 60 years and older are also less likely to engage in the recommended amounts of physical activity for health (16), making them an important demographic for high-quality, evidence based programming.”
