When she pitched a new idea for a TV series targeted at an audience of women over 50, arguing this was an underserved audience, she was met with blank stares from production company executive. She was told they loved the idea but the only way to get it made was to cut the age of her proposed lead woman from 59 to 35. One responded “Yeah, we don’t really believe women over 50 are a valid audience.” Says 52 year old Katja Meier, “it was heartbreaking to hear.” So she set up a production company of her own, begging and borrowing funds to make a pilot. Now the series, titled $Share, the story of a woman who part inherits a mining company which has been described as “Succession in the Swiss Alps,” is being streamed on Olyn, an independent platform enabling creators to sell their work directly to viewers.
