A 77 year old who made it to Everest Base Camp provided a vivid example of the way silver adventurers are sweeping away conventional images of ageing. The traveller was a customer of adventure travel company Intrepid, whose UK and Ireland general manager Hazel Maguire told euronews.com: “Bookings from UK customers aged 60-plus were up 42 per cent last year compared to before the pandemic.” She said the firm was also seeing a lot of “victory lap” clients joining its trips. “These are older travellers who visited destinations on a budget or while backpacking when they were younger, and now want to go back at a slower pace, with more comfort, and enjoy it from a different perspective.”
