The silver market is the UK’s most lucrative, but it may not always be so, researchers warn. The gap between financial preparedness for retirement and average lengthening life expectancy is growing, gradually reducing the amount many new retirees have available for holidays and other discretionary spending. A new report from Fidelity International, in partnership with the National Innovation Centre for Ageing (NICA), finds that just over one third (35%) of over-50s are “under planning” their likely needs by ten years or more. Stressing “an urgent rethink” of how they prepare for later life, it says even more of them (74%) are similarly unready when measured against a potential 100 year lifespan.
