Over 65s are abandoning traditional broadcast TV in significant numbers for the first time as they shift to on demand services such as BBC iPlayer, according to the regulator Ofcom. Its latest data shows a drop of 8% year on year and an overall fall of 6% from pre-pandemic levels. It also suggests older people are diversifying their viewing and becoming more likely to watch streamed programmes such as Ted Lasso and Succession – while overall adoption of such services appears to be plateauing. For example, the proportion of over 64s subscribing to Disney + has risenfrom 7% in 2022 to 12% this year.
