After staging a face to face jobs fair in Edinburgh aimed exclusively at over-50s, Phoenix Group has been encouraged to plan similar events. Noting that the UK has around a half million fewer such people in the workforce than if pre-pandemic trends had continued, the major long term savings and retirement company brought together over 300 of them to explore and discuss job opportunities. It also offered Google run workshops covering skills, employability and CV writing. The company says it “wanted to gain further insight into candidates’ experiences of searching for a job, if they had experienced any barriers in their search, and what further tools would be helpful to support them”. Many of them, it found, reported feeling as though age discrimination was a big factor in job searches
