Knowing what regrets older silvers mull over in sleepless passages would seem a no brainer for marketers targetting them. The author of an article posted this week online says that after decades of questioning people in their 70s and 80s she has “discovered that their deepest regrets aren’t about dramatic failures or missed fortunes — they’re about the ordinary choices that quietly shaped entire lifetimes”. They include not doing something – such as venturing abroad to work because it seemed too risky – staying in a job they hated for fear of the impact on their pension or missing important moments while working long hours. “So many people over seventy talk about the school plays they missed, the family dinners they rushed through, the bedtime stories they were too tired to read.”
