Ocean cruising and city breaks are the two most popular silver holiday choices, the latest annual survey from ABTA confirms. When asked what type of trip they would be interested in, the former were cited by 74%, 70% and 73% of those in the 45-55, 56-64 and 65+ age groups respectively. Exploring cities was favourite with 55% of the 55-64 age group. When picking cruises over 65s appear to be relatively loath to negotiate busy airports, with 46% citing “no-fly” arrangements. Perhaps unsurprising, older people are the least confident when measured by ABTA’s Travel Confidence Index, which is calculated by asking a sample of UK adults how confident they feel about taking an overseas holiday on a scale of one to ten. But though the 45-64 year olds appeared slightly less so this year than last, confidence among over 65s increased significantly.
