Almost one in four (22 per cent) UK retirees say their standard of living has improved since they climbed off the treadmill, according to a new survey. It’s a heartening statistic for the marketing business in difficult times, even though it is outweighed by the 30 per cent who say theirs has deteriorated. The research, which comes from Standard Life, highlights the rise of the “unetirers”. It found 8 per cent of people who had retired said they had returned to work while one per cent were actively looking to do so and seven per cent said they were considering it. And it shows there has been a steady rise in the proportion of pensioners over 65 with earnings income since the turn of the century, interrupted only by the pandemic, from just over 10 per cent to aound 25 per cent.
