Nearly half 44% of 55-64 year olds plan to shift to semi-retirement before they hit 65, using their pension savings to work part time, according to a report from Aviva. But almost as many(40%+) say they “like the idea of working through retirement”. With a huge majority (91%) of those who have reduced their working hours saying they are “much happier” as a result, the findings clearly indicate that companies short of staff need to concentrate on providing greater flexibility as a way to alleviate the problem. They also suggest that wooning back those persuaded by the pandemic to retire early may not be the only solution.
