Plans to launch so called “returnerships” to lure over-50s back into the workforce appear to have been diluted by the Government. Education minister Nick Gibbs is reported to have confirmed that current policy is only to direct older workers to existing schemes. They include the Department for Work and Pensions’ Midlife MOT website and skills boot camps. There was some surprise among HR specialists that proposals apparently announced in the Spring Budget had been shelved. But one HR expert said a lack of new Government schemes might have little effect on the numbers taking up jobs as the private sector had “proven very adept at enticing older people back into work”.
