Gen X may have less spending power than the “baby boomers” who preceded them, a leading UK wealth and asset management company warns. Usually defined as those born between 1965 and 1980, they missed out on both generous final salary pensiions and early auto-enrolment and risk sleepwalking into an inadequate retirement. They have a higher exposure to property, with nearly twice as many owning buy to let homes as boomers, according to new analysis from Rathbones. But recent property value have been barely keeping pace with inflation – and in some cases have lagged behind it- and they are less likely to hold tax efficient investments such as ISAs (66% vs 78%) or other investment accounts (45% vs 52%).
