Only one in seven (14%) of the UK’s over 65s think social media affects their age group negatively, according to a new YouGov survey. Significantly more (34%) believe it has a positive impact on them, while 43% are “neutral”. Among those aged 50-64 the relative proportions are 22%, 26% and 49%. This contrasts with the views of the youngest adults questioned, with 18-24 year olds notably more likely to think it has harmed older adults (37%) than those who believe think it has benefitted them (21%). And as the Government plans a ban on some platforms for the under 16s, older opinion is firmly in favour, with 86% of 50-64 year olds and 81% over over 65s believing it has a negative impact such young children.
