Have you ever wondered if there’s a college somewhere in the shires where designers learn how to make packaging as difficult at possible to open? Fantasy maybe, bur evidence suggests legions of silvers suffer frustration and sometimes even injury opening the likes of ring pull cans, child safe bottles and sachets with “tear here” instructions. Now the Design Age Institute is seeking 10,000 signatures for a petition pushing for new standards, such a square jars that are easier to grip and tamper proof plastic rings that are less firmly attached. A survey by the institute found packaging left many retired or semi retired people feeling “old” and “incompetent”. Access the petition at https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/625867.
