Training the mind may be a way to help reduce back pain, according to a study in the US. Researchers at the University of Colorado examined the impact of “pain reprocessing therapy” on a problem that afflicts large numbers of silvers, often preventing them from living life to the full. Before receiving therapy only one in ten participants in then study believed their pain was mind or brain related. Afterwards the number increased to 51%.Dr. Yoni Ashar, assistant professor of internal medicine at the University’s Anschutz Medical Campus, said: ““In our study, most participants reported a full or nearly full recovery from pain,” he added. “This speaks to the power of this treatment, and the need to better understand how the brain can ‘unlearn’ chronic pain.”
