AI technology could have an inbuilt bias against silver applicants, HR experts have warned. As companies face cuts in hiring and trainiing budgets, recruiters have less time to sift hundreds of job seekers, resulting in some 75% now using Application Tracking System (ATS) or another tool to speed up the process, according to a blog on the hrnews website. ATS enables them to collect CVs and scan them for key words and experiences. But sue of such tools may prompt unintentional discrimination against older applicants because they have been “trained” on historican data that may reflect biased hiring practice or criteria. The blog warns: “Even in the most subtle ways, some algorithms may filter out candidates based on gaps in employment or previous roles deemed “outdated,” which can disproportionately impact older applicants who may have different gaps due to various life events”
