Are you as well or better off buying NS&I Premium Bonds compared to investing your reserves in interest bearing accounts? Though it depends on your luck, probably not, a new analysis suggests. Rest Less, the on line platform for older people, has looked at the likelihood of scoring in the formers’ monthly draws compared with current returns from the latter. It notes that NS&I is this month cutting the amount available for winnings from 4.15% to 4%, reducing further your chances of a big prize. It is the second reduction in as many months, after the rate was reduced from from 4.40% for the December draw. At the new rate it calculates that the odds against winning with each £1Bond are 22,000-1. But it also points out that this is at a time when interest rates are still relatively high – and that holders cling every month to the hope, of course, that they will win one of the two £1 million jackpots.
